Get the Studycase desktop app for Mac or Windows at no cost. Out of the box it runs the full demo tier and the courtcraft library — no signup, no card. When you're ready to run a live coached session on your own hearing, you unlock that inside the app.
The download
Demo hearings, the practice-pack walkthroughs, the moot ballot on demo rounds, and the whole courtcraft library — installed and offline-capable. The site sells you nothing; it gives you the app.
Live coached sessions
Point Studycase at a real recording or a live moot and the coach works the room with you in real time. That runs on our inference gateway, so it's credit-metered — bought inside the app, never on this page.
Installing the Mac build (unsigned preview)
The current Mac build isn't notarized by Apple yet, so Gatekeeper will stop a normal double-click with "Studycase can't be opened." That's expected for an unsigned preview — here's the one-time right-click walk around it. A signed, notarized build is on the way.
Open the disk image
Double-click the downloaded .dmg and drag Studycase into your Applications folder as usual.
Right-click → Open
In Applications, right-click (or Control-click) Studycase and choose Open — do not double-click. A dialog will now offer an Open button that a plain double-click doesn't.
Confirm once
Click Open. macOS remembers your choice, so from now on Studycase launches with a normal double-click.
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Studycase-*.dmg and compare the
output to the hash shown. If they don't match, don't open it.
[FOUNDER] Apple Developer signing + notarization is a founder gate (needs the paid Developer ID). Until it lands, the Mac build stays an unsigned preview and this right-click walkthrough is the supported install path.
Installing on Windows
The Windows build ships as a standard installer plus a portable no-install zip. Because it isn't code-signed yet, SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC" on first run.
Run the installer
Launch the downloaded .exe. If SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway — this is the unsigned-build prompt, not a virus warning.
Or go portable
Prefer no install? Grab the portable .zip, unzip anywhere, and run Studycase.exe directly.
Verify the hash
In PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\Studycase-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256 and compare to the sha256 on the card above.
[FOUNDER] Authenticode code signing (and the smoke test on real Windows hardware) is a founder gate — see DESK-1. Until the signed build and a Windows smoke pass land, the Windows card stays in its honest "build in progress" state rather than shipping an untested artifact.
What live sessions cost (inside the app)
The download is free. Live coached sessions run on metered credits you buy in the app — never on this website. A rough idea of the pilot packs:
